About Renee

Renee Poquette-Menard

Having gotten the “horse fever” early on, Renee began riding lessons when she was 7. She got her first horse at ten and showed in 4-H and dressage shows.  Over the next 8 years she was a "barn rat" and was able to ride a variety of horses.   She gained a wealth of knowledge and experience under the guidance of her instructor, Kathy Harrings.  During this time Renee Showed in 4-H, open shows (western and english),  and dressage and jumping as well as lots of trail experience.  Eventually she was happy to have the opportunity to take on the  teaching some of the riding lessons and training horses.
Renee then went on to train with Alma Mewhorter and occasionally rode in clinics and lessoned with her daughter USDF Gold Medalist, Amy Gessner- Larson.
Renee's extensive riding background includes a wide variety of disciplines.   Dressage training competing through third level dressage on her self -trained warmblood, Parragon.    Showing in 4-H for years, For a short time taking lessons in Vermont from USDF gold medalist and grand prix rider Debra-Dean Smith.  She also spent a summer riding with  Sheila Schils who spent 20 years teaching in the equestrian program at UW-River falls, and Michelle Markquart of River Bluff Farm.   Most recently She has been lessoning with Megan McIzacs of Lindinhof Equine Sports Zentrum, Madison, WI.    Her education also includes riding in clinics with:  Ken McGrath,  Kathy Connolly,  Amy Larson, and Lientje Schueler.
Renee then took a short break where she earned an Education degree in K-12 Physical Education, Adaptive P.E and a coaching minor from Winona State University.   She got married to her wonderful husband Brian and now has a son named Nolan, and daughter named Malayna.    They are the light of her life and keep her very busy.  When not riding horses, teaching and training she spends time at the family cabin in the north woods, exercising, fishing, skiing and spending time with friends, family and her dogs.  She also has been a professional pet groomer since 2000 and continues to groom part-time at a local veterinary clinic.

Although dressage will always be her passion, she has experience showing hunt seat, jumping, showmanship, halter, western, open and breed shows in the Paint and Pinto circuit.     She also has experience riding almost every breed.  Next to dressage,  she loves spending time trail riding.    She took on a new adventure recently in 2012 by joining ACTHA (American Competitive Trail Horse Association)  and placed 4th in her first competition.   She is able to use aspects of her  Education Degree to continue educating others in the world of horses and hopes to create more "riding classes" geared toward fitness/health/and body.  Renee especially enjoys working with special needs since she has her Adaptive P.E license.  She has worked with every type of disability and welcomes the chance to work with those on or off the horse.

Renee has immersed herself in every aspect of horses since a young age and has always been driven to learn more and to become the best rider she can be.  She has always devoted herself to being a student of her sport whether that entails reading books, magazines or attending clinics.  She hopes to continue pursuing her USDF medals and possibly become a USDF Certified dressage instructor or judge.
Her goal has always been to one day officially be a horse trainer and riding  instructor, so, in 2010 she established Cadence Equine, LLC and began training out of two different wonderful facilities.   She teaches lessons, trains horses, and helps coach the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire Equestrian team.
